This week’s flu clinic is open to the public.  Keep in mind that they will only be vaccinating children over the age of 3 at this clinic.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Boston Public Health Commission will be sponsoring its first free flu vaccination clinic on Wednesday, October 26, 1:00pm – 7:00pm at 1010 Mass Avenue, 2nd flr., Boston, MA.  We are one block away from the South Bay Shopping Plaza.  No appointments needed. Please bring your insurance card, if you have one.

Flu season is here and the best protection against influenza is vaccination.  It is recommended that everyone 6 months of age and older should get the flu vaccine this year.  It is especially important for the following groups to be vaccinated because they are at high risk of getting sick with the flu or giving it to others who are at high risk:

  • Pregnant women
  • People 50 years of age and older
  • People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
  • People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
  • People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:

o    Health care workers

o    Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu

o    Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)

Important health habits include washing your hands, covering your cough and staying home when you are sick.

The BPHC has many resources and staff available to answer your questions, please visit our website atwww.bphc.org or call (617) 534-5050.
