Using Your SNAP Benefits at Farmers’ Markets

Posted on August 19, 2011

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) serves more than 810,000 individuals in Massachusetts in need. Thanks to an increased number of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) systems now at farmers’ markets, access to healthy and high quality food has become much easier for SNAP recipients. Recently 32 farmers’ markets and related organizations received grants through collaborative efforts between MDAR, the Department of Transitional Assistance, and Harvard Pilgrim to markets serving 25 communities statewide (including Boston). A total of 78 markets now offer SNAP benefits. Click here for an FAQ and list of markets that accept SNAP.
