Mayor’s Health Line Accepts Statewide Challenge to Insure All MA Children

Posted on May 25, 2011

During the month of May, the Mayor’s Health Line (MHL) stepped up to accept a statewide challenge – sponsored by Health Care For All’s “got coverage? Health Coverage for Kids and Teens” campaign –which aims to enroll 500 children in health care coverage by the end of the month.

While Massachusetts has the highest coverage rate in the nation, there are still thousands of children living in Massachusetts who are uninsured. During the month of May, MHL, along with 64 other organizations in Massachusetts, will redouble their enrollment efforts in order to close the gap and cut down on the number of uninsured children living in the Commonwealth.

“Our mission is to improve the health of Boston residents by connecting families and resources through a coordinated system of impact,” said MHL Director Steven Belec. “Because all children have the opportunity to be covered by health insurance in our state, it’s incredibly important that they have access to the affordable plans they are eligible for.”

“I commend the work of Mayor’s Health Line to connect uninsured children living in the Commonwealth to quality health coverage,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. JudyAnn Bigby. “MHL’s outreach efforts will go a long way to ensure healthier outcomes for the next generation of adults.”

“Massachusetts leads the nation in health care access but there are still thousands of children in Commonwealth who are not connected to quality health care,” said Amy Whitcomb Slemmer, Executive Director of Health Care For All. “With 65 organizations participating, we are confident that we will help close the gap so that eventually all kids in Massachusetts will be connected to the care they need. Our challenge will also be a unique opportunity for enrollment groups to evaluate their efforts and to share best practices which will help other states enroll kids during implementation of national health reform.”

In Massachusetts, children and teens up to age 19 are eligible for FREE or LOW-COST health insurance. Your income and immigration status do not matter.
