Hearing Loss

Hearing loss may happen as you get older, but it’s not all out of your control. According to MedlinePlus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, both environmental factors and genetics can play a role. Here are some tips that HealthDay News got from the American Academy of Family Physicians about how to help prevent hearing loss.

  • Avoid loud noises when possible
  • Don’t listen to the radio or television at high volumes
  • Wear ear plugs or other ear protection if you have to be around loud noises
  • Get your hearing checked regularly

Don’t use one noise to drown out another noise. For example, if you’re using a blender, don’t make the television louder to cover the blender noise.
