Boston Public Health Commission has reported that mosquito pools in Boston have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). Even though there have been two mosquito pools which tested positive for WNV, there have been no confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus.
Mosquitoes most commonly transmit WNV via bite, but fortunately there is a very low risk for humans to become infected with the virus. You should still proactively protect you and your family from mosquitoes to lower the risk.
It is beneficial to be alert that WNV is here in Boston, and also learn how to protect yourself, so please take a look at the report and the WNV fact sheet. Please share comments, and call the Mayors Health Line with any questions, (617-534-5050).
